Aegina is one of the Saronic Islands of the Aegean Sea,  in a distance of only 17 miles (27 km) from Athens. You can reach Aegina Island from Piraeus, the central port of Athens, just in 30 minutes by hydrofoil or in 1 hour by car ferry. The island of Aegina is known for its excellent climate, nature, beaches and pistachio trees.
The capital of the island, the city of Aegina, used to be the first capital of Greece, after the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The house is located in the middle of the eastern looking bay of  Agia (Santa) Marina. The village of Agia Marina is at a driving distance of 20 minutes from the central port of  Aegina. A good public bus connection is available. In summer, you can also reach Agia Marina by boat, directly from the port of  Piraeus. The road from the city of Aegina goes through forests covered by  pine trees and meets the huge Monastery of Saint Nektarios, as well as the hill of the medieval town with its 365 old churches, one for every day of the year. Passing through the  picturesque village of Mesagros you will find yourself at the Dorian style ancient temple of Aphaia, which overlooks for more than 2.500 years  the bay of Agia Marina.
Agia Marina is a well known favorite summer destination for Greek and foreign tourists. The main attraction of this place is the crystal clear sea that reflects the pine trees. There is a 500 meters long well organized with water sports sandy  beach, as well as  many other smaller rocky beaches, suitable for swimming, sunbathing and underwater fishing. The waters are not very deep and their colour is emerald.
In Santa Marina you can taste Greek and international cuisine in many picturesque taverns by the seaside, take a walk along the main street where jewelery and folk art shops are mixed with cafeterias, bars, restaurants and discos, or hire a horse riding coach and visit the neighboring village of Alones.
